a minute with my family

I recorded this for my brother John, who is in London and missed Thanksgiving. It has all the elements of a moment with my family.

1. Clothing missing

2. A fight with mom

3. Someone being called a Nazi

4. The bird

5. My dad singing

Scotty forgot to look at himself in the mirror on the way down the stairs but he is only half us.

Anyway miss you, John!

love. love. love.

I watched Moonstruck on Hulu when I got my wisdom teeth taken away from me.  Cher is in it, if you didn’t know. Anyway, I liked this quote.

Ronny Cammareri: Loretta, I love you. Not like they told you love is, and I didn’t know this either, but love don’t make things nice – it ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We aren’t here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts…

own it.

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears however measured or far away.”

if you’re into this kind of thing

I recently came upon a book that I read last year. For awhile I have searched for a chastity book that is worthwhile. I know everyone doesn’t always agree on it, but I’d like to give it a try. I have read ones that I have had to put down because I don’t think they were written by people who are human. Some are just a little unrealistic for me and sometimes just a tad brainwashy. But if anyone is interested at all, I would recommend The Thrill of the Chaste by Dawn Eden. It is written by a woman who is nonjudgmental and  who has actually been there. Dawn Eden was a rock journalist in NYC. The book is filled with personal experiences from Dawn’s life in the New York singles scene. It was  very fun, hip and easy to read and not preachy. Even if you aren’t religious, I would recommend the book just to offer another perspective.

The author had a blog http://dawneden.blogspot.com/ but has gone on permanent hiatus.

I have a copy if you want to borrow.

Guadalajara

Everything is almost set! I am getting my plane ticket very soon. I can’t believe that I am going to be gone for five months. I am excited but very nervous. Everyone keeps telling me that I am going to love it there. There’s apparently only one other OU student going who I haven’t met. Today there was a long pre-departure meeting. They told us that we need to prepare ourselves to feel uncomfortable. Perfect! I feel uncomfortable all the time!

Michael Scott’s wisdom

This line from last week’s The Office struck me. Michael on dating an older woman:off_3016_01

“Honestly, for a long time I thought I was going to grow old with Holly, and then I met Helene, and she is great, and she already knows and has done everything that I have ever wanted to do and can tell me about it, but I think I want to do those things myself.”
